2017 Graduate Student Awards: Forum Director and graduate student recognized for outstanding contributions
The winners of Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ's 2017 Graduate Student Awards have been selected and we're pleased to announce that two members of the Forum team are amongst those being recognized.
John N. Lavis, director of the Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ, has been awarded the President's Award for Excellence in Graduate Supervision. This award, administered by Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ's School of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Students Association, was created in 1996 to recognize outstanding supervisory and mentoring skills.
In addition, Ahmad Firas Khalid (a PhD student under the supervision of John Lavis and one of the Forum's Queen Elizabeth Scholars) was awarded the Mary Keyes Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service to Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ. This award acknowledges graduate students who give their time, spirit and energy to Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ student societies, university committees and/or governing bodies. Students who exhibit excellence in leadership, generosity of spirit, and initiative for the betterment of the graduate student experience and Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ community have been nominated for this award.
Ahmad Firas Khalid is a member of the Forum's Impact Lab team, which also includes many collaborating investigators and talented students.
The annual Graduate Student Recognition Awards acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of Áù¾ÅÊÓÆµ’s graduate student community – graduate researchers, teaching assistants, administrative staff, and graduate supervisors – to the broader University community. about the awards and the 2017 winners.
